Andrew M. Alper, AB ’80, MBA ’81

President, New York City Economic Development Corporation

Andrew M. Alper earned his AB from the University of Chicago in 1980 and his MBA from Chicago Booth in 1981. After a 20-year career at Goldman Sachs, where he ultimately became chief operating officer of the investment banking division, Alper set out on a new career in the public sector as president of the New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC).

Applying what he learned at Goldman Sachs, Alper restructured the EDC and instilled a private sector focus in an effort to advance Mayor Michael Bloomberg's three-pronged economic development strategy: make the city more livable, make it more business friendly, and diversify the economy.

A consistently generous supporter of the University of Chicago and Chicago Booth, Alper has served as a University Trustee, a member of the Council on Chicago Booth, co-chair of the Chicago Booth Campaign, and chairman of the university's development committee.
